The SmartBand Talk SWR30 is one of Sony’s most intriguing IFA 2014 reveals in our eyes. It takes the SmartBand ‘lifelogging’ wearable and adds a 1.4-inch (296 x 128) curved E Ink display, an IP68 rating for dust/water resistance and a built-in microphone and loudspeaker for voice control and call handling.
As the name suggests, the SmartBand Talk SWR30 allows you to take calls. Simply tap the SmartBand to answer a call – it also contains a vibrate function which means you will never miss a call. Obviously the quality of call handling will be determined by how loud the speaker is, especially in outside public places. Sony says that the SmartBand Talk can also be used to initiate a call.
The SmartBand Talk SWR30 is compatible with the Lifelog application, as you would expect, and supports voice commands in six different languages. The band also includes a built-in accelerometer and altimeter sensor technology, which helps provide an accurate overview of your daily physical activity.
The benefits of the E Ink display are not only on battery life, but also legibility in sunlight. The display keeps you on top of text/call/social notifications as they arrive. Sony quotes battery life at three days with the 70mA battery. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0 and micro USB for charging.
The SmartBand Talk SWR30 will be available in two sizes on launch as well as two colours (Black and White). The SmartBand Talk Wrist Strap SWR310 will also be available in various colours after launch if you want to mix it up.
