Sony announced the IPT-DS10M Smart Imaging Stand at IFA last week. The idea behind the stand is that follows faces, say when you are hosting parties and captures pictures/videos automatically when people smile. Obviously it is the Xperia smartphone that is doing the sensing here, automatically steering the IPT-DS10M via Bluetooth to tilt and rotate 360 degrees to keep its subjects in focus and capture images. The stand also has NFC for easy pairing.
The IPT-DS10M Smart Imaging Stand is powered by 2 x standard AA size batteries and requires a couple of apps to function including Smart Connect and the Smart Imaging Stand host app (includes SmileCatcher). Sony has even provided a new experimental Motion API so that third-party developers can create interesting apps for the device. Pricing recently appeared for the device and it won’t come cheap, with the Sony Store UK pegging it at £119.99. Seems like an interesting device, although we’d like to see what kind of success rate it would have in practice before laying down that kind of money.
